Our approach

How we compare betting sites

No black box and no pay-to-rank. Here is the actual process behind every comparison on BritBet Index, and the handful of things worth checking for yourself.

The process, step by step

  1. 01 We pick a focused shortlist

    Rather than listing everything, we keep the line-up small and review each product properly. A short, considered set is more useful than a directory you have to dig through.

  2. 02 We use the product like a punter

    We move through the main sports, build a single bet and a multiple, open the in-play board and read the terms. The aim is to judge the everyday experience, not a glossy demo.

  3. 03 We score against fixed criteria

    Coverage and odds, usability and mobile, features, terms transparency and safer-gambling visibility — each carries a set weighting, so every product is measured the same way.

  4. 04 We write it up honestly

    Strengths and weaknesses both get a mention. Where a product is thin in an area, we say so, regardless of any commercial arrangement.

  5. 05 We keep it current

    Reviews are revisited over time and after notable changes. The operator's own site always remains the final word on live odds, markets and terms.

What to check for yourself

A comparison is a starting point, not a substitute for your own quick checks. Before you commit to a product, take two minutes to confirm:

  • the current odds and the markets you actually want are available;
  • the deposit and withdrawal methods suit you, with timings you're happy with;
  • any promotion's terms and wagering requirements, in full;
  • the safer-gambling tools — deposit limits and time-outs — are easy to set.

The full scoring weights and our standards live on the Editorial Review Policy page, and the funding side is set out in the Affiliate Disclosure.

A note on fairness

We avoid hard "best in the UK" claims. Different products suit different bettors — an accumulator specialist is not competing on the same ground as a markets-led product. The comparison is there to help you match a product to how you bet, not to crown a single winner.
